Ingredients & Kitchen Tools:

  • 1 package dry active yeast
  • 1 1/2 cup warm water
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 4 cups all purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 large egg
  • coarse sea salt for sprinkling
  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter
  • 1 large bowl and 3 small bowls (large bowl: to mix warm water and yeast, then add the rest of the ingredients,1 small bowl for extra flour, 1 small bowl for coarse salt, 1 small bowl to beat 1 egg & dip pretzel bite dough in)
  • spatula
  • a brush to brush bites with butter (I had to use a smoothie straw and “shake” the butter on my bites, so you can get creative too if you don’t have a brush ;))
  • an area or board dusted with flour (where you will knead dough and slice into bites)
  • 13 x 18 baking sheet (standard size) lined with parchment paper

:: Prep :: Preheat oven to 425 degrees F :: Yield: about 70 bites::

  1. combine 1.5 cups of warm water and 1 package of yeast in bowl. let yeast dissolve (2 minutes) & mix
  2. stir in the 1 tablespoon of sugar until dissolved
  3. add the 4 cups of flour and 1/2 tsp of salt. stir to combine until dough is mixed well (dough will be crumbly, but kneading will resolve this)
  4. turn the dough onto working area, knead (click on link for a tutorial like I had to do!) dough until smooth
  5. divide dough into 5 portions. One at a time, roll the dough balls out into ropes that are about 1 inch in diameter. Cut 1-inch lengths of dough.
  6. In a small bowl lightly whisk the 1 egg
  7. Drop each of the dough pieces into the egg mixture and immediately transfer to the prepared baking sheet (they will stick once dropped, so keep in mind when placing them & place about 1/2 inch apart)
  8. Sprinkle with coarse sea salt.
  9. Bake 8-12 minutes (varies depending on oven types)
  10. Brush bites with melted 1 Tbsp butter and sprinkle with more coarse sea salt
  11. Continue to bake until all the bites are baked! (I was able to get 28 on my tray)
  12. enjoy! *they are amazing right out of the oven & reheat well when warmed again in the oven!
